LEAGUE ONE
The Whinging Wankers find they have alot to whinge about with a morale sapping 0-1 defeat against the Globetrotters . Hopefully they'll find something to w**k about in their next game. Thinking about it, hopefully not. Meanwhile the Sulky Seven's vigorous pre-tourney fitness regime pays off with a resounding 2-0 win against the Young Ones, leading to comments along the lines of..."are you sure the Sulkies won? They were the team from the Third XI squad - did you get the teams mixed up?" Just goes to prove that you can't beat experience - it's just a shame that the SLA div. 3 is packed with experienced teams. The Young Ones hit back with a 3-0 demolition of the Whingers    whose keeper Neil Connelly takes his frustrations out on the unfortunate forward who is left with a one on one with him. The Sulky Seven continue their serene progress with a single goal victory over the Globetrotters  . In the final group games, the Wankers retrieve some pride with a 2-0 defeat of the Sulkies, but it's too little too late for them to avoid the wooden spoon. The 1-1 draw between the Globetrotters and Young Ones  is enough for the latter to go through on goal difference.

LEAGUE TWO
Black Stars & Jon begin their campaign with a 3-0 win against the Fourth Team (whenever did we play in green and white stripes??). The controversy was all on the adjoining pitch where the Pegasus veterans and fashion icons came up against Matt Wilson's Massivo Belendo (phnarr phnarr). The Pegasus team, packed with 5-a-side_2004 know-how, are disorientated when the ball doesn't bounce back off the walls...but battle well and a very tight game which grabbed the rapt attention of the huge attendance  is decided by a ridiculous ball-to-hand penalty award for Massivo by the guest referee, the manager of the Whinging Wankers  who, knowing how difficult the job is, has never been known to question a referee's competence ever - take no notice of his match reports, he's only jesting (in case this is read by any Kent League officials). No hard feelings though Couch - thanks for volunteering, he said through gritted teeth.

Anyway, the show goes on, with Massivo Belendo going down by a solitary late goal to the Black Stars & Jon, and Pegasus drying their tears with a 2-0 win over the Fourth Team. All this left Black Stars & Jon certain of qualifying and Pegasus needing to beat them by more than Massivo Belendo could beat the injury-hit Fourth Team. Or something like that.

Pegasus warmed up for the task ahead like men possessed  and took the game to the favourites. To be honest, for a few minutes I discovered how those college basketball players must have felt when they played the Harlem Globetrotters, but Pegasus stuck to their task and refused to be downhearted when a swift counter attack led to the opening goal for the Stars
Just before half time Colin Brazier pulled the ball back for Alan Black to drive a shot into the arms of the Stars', er, defender. Penalty! Well in the eyes of the Silver Fox, anyway. The old adage that rough decisions even themselves up over a season proved itself again - over 3 matches! Alan Black was volunteered to take the spot kick, which he did with such panache that even Jon Unbeaten-in-the-Shootathon Cobham was left helpless .  The match then took on the air of a chess game with both teams' possession-based styles cancelling each other out   (well write your own match report then!). A 1-1 result was a fair reflection of the match. Any rumours that the Black Stars were taking it easy were totally founded. btw thanks to Jane Wright, wife of the erstwhile Pegasus keeper Dynamo Kev, for taking the role of cameraperson for this game.

Oh yeah, the Fourth Team scored their first goals of the tournament against
Massivo Belendo but went down 2-4. Yes, they didn't get a point, but they competed and enjoyed the day, which reminds me - where was the Vets' team?

So, on to the semi finals...
The Black Stars & Jon eased through to the final with a 3-0 win over Young Ones. The game that your reporter watched was the clash between the tournament's surprise package Sulky Seven and Massivo Belendo . Paul Eddleston, in charge of a winning team for the first time in a while, was taking it all in his stride while his Sulky Seven played their full part in an enthralling end to end match . The Sulkies created and missed chance after chance, but Belendo rode their luck and in time-honoured fashion punished this profligacy with the winning strike midway through the second half. This left the Sulkies' keeper throwing his toys out the pram - not for the first time, I can tell you.

and so to the final...Black Stars & Jon v. Massivo Belendo
The crowd gathered in anticipation as the unfancied Massivo took on the heavily backed favourites Black Stars , who had conceded just one goal up to now, a Des-awarded penalty against Pegasus  in the group stages. The finalists both came through the same group, with the Stars edging a tight contest 1-0 with a late winner in their group match. They did indeed dominate the early play   but were rocked when Belendo took the lead with a fine goal.  So were all the pundits  to be proved wrong? Well, er, no.   Three stunning goals from the Black Stars turned the game in their favour, and impressed the crowd  so much that even Benny was left speechless for once.  So the best team in most people's opinion went on to lift the trophy  while the rest of the teams have vowed to take it off them next time...

Thanks to everyone for playing their part in a thoroughly entertaining day - all players, team managers and supporters, Neil Smith for spawning the idea, referees Des Fallon, Paul Eddleston, Paul Parsons and yes, even Ian Couchman. Also Vic for being Vic, Eddie Hill for marking out the pitches, Vicky Parsons for keeping score, Shirley, Gemma and the volunteer barstaff for keeping us all fed and watered, Sara for saving the club money by washing the kit, but especially to Shaun Keddle for organising the event, which is sure to be a regular fixture on the FOBG calendar from now on.
