So the headlines read “Sunday 11 lose again!”. (Er, not all of them...website ed.!) No surprises there to everyone. However in my opinion this does not tell the full story of some creditable individual and team performances. This was our 4th meeting with Midfield this season and again we were left with nothing to show for our efforts. As has been the case far too often this season we were slow out of the blocks and punished by some swift attacking play by Midfield to find ourselves 3-0 down within 25 minutes. The frustrating reality of this scoreline is that we made one or two chances of our own within this period; notably Dan Head who just missed the target and Adam Dawson who would have scored a fantastic goal but was thwarted by an outstretched goalie''s fingertip after a great run. The harsh reality of teams in this league is that missed chances invariably come back to haunt you and this game was no exception for FOBG.

The 2nd half we started much more brightly and there was an extra pace in our build up play and dare I say it..actually some belief not only in ourselves but in each other. Bobby Moulson scored our first goal after a free kick from Adam Dawson and Adam himself got our 2nd with another trademark calm lob of their keeper from the edge of the penalty area. The last goal came a bit too late to mount a charge for an equaliser but we had created many chances and defended like a team who cared in the 2nd half which allowed players to hold their heads up high on the final whistle.

A brief mention for those who played yesterday:

Dan Ford was commanding and authoratitive in goal and produced a great fingertip save… not sure if the cameras caught it though! Chris Greenhough had another terrific display at right back showing great determination and tenacity in all his play. Steve Pester once again lead by example and is truly a player who has always kept spirits high and motivated and encouraged others around him. Andy Cobb proves that age is only a number as his performance was steadfast and assured at the back. Matti Wright despite having to chase lightning quick wingers played with passion and kept his composure to snuff out their threats particularly in the 2nd half. Dan Head and Jason Miller on the flanks despite being at opposite ends of the age spectrum showed strength in the tackle and the energy to support our attacks and help the defence. They both ran themselves into the ground but were comfortable on the ball and were great outlets for the defence. Matt Pragnell played a great game in the heart of the midfield firstly with Jay Hardy who was carrying an injury and then myself in the 2nd half. He was strong in the tackle and dominant in the air. Bobby Moulson scored one and made himself a few more opportunities. He has great feet and is developing all the time. A true asset and great competitor. Adam Dawson once again proved that on his day he is virtually unplayable. He scored one and was a constant threat. He showed great awareness today and deserved more than his one goal.

Tant has shown a great willingness to shoulder responsibility in taking this team through to the end of the season and he deserved that 2nd half performance.
We need to show that competiveness to the end of the season and if we keep that spirit we will achieve results!

Ps. Whose boot was it that I caught in the face in defending a corner towards the end? I’m guessing it was Adam sneaking back to get some revenge for the years of misplaced passes he has had to chase.
