Match Report

Fourth XI
0 - 0
Old Colfeians 'A'

By Chee-Yong Lee

A stalemate against Old Colfeians ‘A’. This match could have gone either way in favour of Farnborough OBG or Old Colfeians ‘A’. One goal would have sealed the victory. Taking into account the whole match this was a hard working performance from Farnborough OBG. We initially had 10 men but thanks to Mike as he put on a pair of boots to help the team and make it an even 11 v 11. Also thanks to Sam Small for making it last minute. The rearranged line-up was now:

GK: Mark
Back Four: Michael, Todd, Steve B and Colin
Midfield: Chee-Yong Lee, Mike, Sam, Tom
Forwards: Dave and Gary Harrigan

So as the game kicked off FOBG started with 10 men with Dave Harrigan dropping into CM before Mick came on about 15 mins into the match, and Dave went up front to partner Gary. FOBG were actually the brighter side in the early stages but just needed to put a foot on the ball to stop giving the ball away cheaply, which were letting Old Colfeians ‘A’ into the match and the first half was quite even in the end. No major threat coming for either goalkeeper until Gary had a turn and shot inside the area from a corner which the keeper got down to save, nevertheless a hard working opening 45 mins for FOBG.

The second half got underway and the opening exchanges were still even, however in this half there were some good opportunities for both sides. The game also opened up towards the end as there were some tired legs and tired minds as this was the 4ths first game in 4 weeks. Whereas with Old Colfeians ‘A’ they had subs to be used and they did use them for some fresh legs, so even more credit should be given to every FOBG player for keeping it level and the defence shutting the door in the opposition's face including some fine challenges from the whole back four and some fine saves from Mark Edwards. As I said there were opportunities for either side but the best opportunity came to Gary Harrigan who beat the defender for pace but unfortunately lashed his shot over the crossbar.

The match did end as a stalemate and all credit to FOBG as everyone put in a shift and FOBG could have actually gone on to win it. Nevertheless a good result and another draw, 4 draws in the last 6 games but still yet to find that first win of the season. Thanks again to Mike and Sam Small as well as everyone on the team for turning up and giving it their all. If fresh legs were available to us we might have won it.
