Fourths' unbeaten run continues

On a bright, very bright, Saturday afternoon, the Fourths continued their unbeaten run in the Bromley league. With a strong squad of 15 players, we took on Rutland Rangers who drew with the league leaders Beaverwood the previous week we knew we were in for a tough afternoon. Preparations were not great with 5 players turning up minutes before kick-off due to traffic problems, but we started strongly and could easily have been 3-nil up after 25 minutes, however for the second week in a row we didn't put our chances away and were made to pay as Rutland scored from a stunning strike from outside the box. We then conceded a second shortly after despite valiant efforts from Jez in goal.

So 2-nil down at half time. Changes were made with some fresh legs coming on and what a difference it made. We upped the tempo and Rob Osborne scored with a cracking header following a wonderful cross from Lloyd. This galvanised the Fourths even more and a second followed shortly following a long kick from Jez which Rob Osborne smashed past the keeper. 2-2. Game on!!

We then decided to have a rest and let Rutland back into the game. They very nearly took the lead again but Jez's long legs saved a goalbound shot. We then took the lead. Another header this time from Graeme Barnes from a Harry Tanner corner. We have now scored more goals from corners this season than in the whole of the previous four seasons!! We then worked to see out the game something which we have really learnt to do following previous seasons when we failed to do so. A late free kick from Lloyd made it 4-2.

The unbeaten run continues and the confidence is sky high. We must learn to put our chances away in the first half and not give ourselves mountains to climb in the second half!!

No assist from Danny this week. And no we are not counting assists this season as well as goals!!
