Least said, soonest mended

The first week of the rainy season caused numerous phone calls to determine if this game would go ahead at Beckenham Cricket Club, Darrick Wood 3G or on the soggy top pitch. After much negotiation it was agreed the game would go ahead as planned with an 11.02 am kick-off following a minutes silence on Remembrance Sunday lead by Micky Gearing.

Despite recent attempts to improve pitch drainage the same old patch of ground refused to tow the line and retained the surface water just like it has in previous seasons producing a boggy quagmire that killed the ball. The plan of action had to be revised two minutes before kick-off as Compo decided that terry the turtle head was making an appearance and as a result had to return to the clubhouse.

The team started as follows:
Gary GK
Phil RB
Colesy CB
Steve CB
Pat LB
Simon RM
Sini CM
Des CM
George LM
Colin M CF
Waine CF

Subs:
Compo
Rob

A brief summary of the game is we played some good football throughout but gifted them three of the four goals scored in the first half. We allowed them to go 5-0 up before we managed to claw ourselves back into the game by pulling it back to 5-4 and at that point we had them on the ropes but then committed too many players forward leaving only two in defence and paid the price as they scored two late goals to give them a 7-4 win. Man of the match votes were down but went to Colesy.

Once the game had ended Belvedere to their great credit remained in the bar and joined our inaugural 100 Club prize draw by purchasing several numbers to finish the grid. Details of the winners are posted on our website.
