Match Report

Sunday 2nd October 2005

Sunday XI
Nana Kwame
1 - 1
Defiance

By Paul Tanton

Once again we had several drop-outs (working & injuries) and players on holiday. Being a manager is a right pain in the @rse at the moment, luckily this week we could call on the services of a Farnborough legend Nana and Gary Harrigan. Gary will now become part of the squad permanently. Also good to see was the return of Ray Perkins who is a very influential player for us.

Onto the game, it was far better performance than last week. We showed a much better attitude and commitment, our passing game was back and so was our talking. These things and Defiance having a player sent off early meant we controlled the game but struggled to find a way through the Defiance defence who basically showed why they are one of the best sides in the league. Despite being a man down Defiance took the lead through a moment''s lack of concentration from a corner. Would we give up like we did last week? "No" was the answer as we came straight back at them and Nana soon equalised from about his 100th shot and his first one on target!! Steve Pester hit the bar and Ray and Barry went close a couple of times as well.

Adam Benningfield deservedly got man of the match for a great display at centre half (it is very noticeable how Adam''s performance improves if he doesn''t stumble out of Biba''s at 3am Sunday morning). However everyone played very well, Andy Cobham/Barry Cleaver/Steve Pester also picked up votes which is the sign of good team performance.

This week is Lessa away and more of the same please.
