A really good result against a strong Melbourne team.
Some excellent football was played in the first half by two teams that wanted to get the ball down and play. Melbourne had the early play and went ahead after some calamity defending saw the ball end up in our own net from our own player. To be fair, we had a number of opportunities to clear the ball and Jumbo in goal made two terrific stops. Row Z with snow on is always an option for the ball in those situations. The goal seemed to really spark us and a set piece throw in saw Aaron make a clever run into the front post area and cross to Jamie who volleyed in a really good goal. 1-1 at the half.
The second half saw our superior fitness come into play and we dominated the half and finished off some really good team moves after some good hard work. Liam Williams added the second before Jay Hardy broke from midfield to meet a Ray Perkins cross for the third. The fourth was added by Ray Perkins himself after a forced error. 4-1 it finished with Jamie getting MOM for a terrific pacy performance full of confidence and invention.
